Fewer Hands on Deck: Bizzabo Cut Dozens of Jobs, and Your Vendor Checklist Just Got Longer

Bizzabo cut dozens of jobs on 2 September, its third round of layoffs since 2022, and the company says it is reorganising around a faster way of building. If your conference runs on Bizzabo, nothing changes at the door tomorrow. What changes is the question you should be asking every event platform you pay: what happens to my events if you shrink again?

What happened

Calcalist reported on 2 September that Bizzabo had let go of dozens of staff in Israel and across its global offices, out of a workforce of roughly 150. The company confirmed the cuts in a statement, describing them as part of a change in how it organises itself and a move to a faster way of working and building for an events market it says is still growing. It did not give a number. Northstar Meetings Group carried a fuller statement from co-founder Alon Alroy on 4 September, who said the company has big plans ahead and promised agentic product announcements soon.

The timing is not flattering, and that is not Bizzabo's fault. The same week brought large cuts at Uber and PayPal, so this is a technology-sector story as much as an events one. But Bizzabo is the vendor whose logo sits on a lot of B2B conference registration pages, so it is the one organisers noticed.

Why organisers should care

Because a platform's headcount is a line item on your risk register whether you wrote it there or not. Bizzabo has raised about $200 million from investors including Insight Partners, Viola Growth, OurCrowd and Next47, and it has been through this cycle before: 120 roles went in July 2022 and another 100 of the remaining 270 that December, followed by a down round that cut its valuation by about 30% to $200 million. It then rebuilt, landed in the Leaders quadrant of Gartner's Magic Quadrant for event platforms in 2024 and 2025, and slipped to the Visionaries quadrant in 2026, according to Northstar.

None of that means the product stops working. Bizzabo's platform, its Klik smart badges and its Bizzy AI attendee copilot all still exist. It does mean that the person who onboarded you, the support engineer who knew your badge template and the product manager who promised you a feature by Q4 may no longer be there. For an organiser six weeks from a 3,000-delegate conference, that is the whole story.

A platform can lose a third of its people and keep every one of its features. What it cannot keep is the promise that someone will pick up the phone at 7am on show day.

What this means for the money

Bizzabo's pricing page lists its Event Experience OS at $499 per user per month, billed annually with a three-user minimum, so about $17,999 a year before anything else, and it requires an annual subscription rather than selling single events. That base includes unlimited events and unlimited registrations, which is worth noting because it is the same shape of promise we make. The difference is what sits behind the paywall: Bizzabo's advanced onsite check-in, CRM and marketing integrations, attendee networking, custom-branded apps and API access are all listed as premium add-ons, and Bizzabo's Bizzabox check-in kit is a rental on top.

The alternative

Tired of Fee Announcements? Go Flat

eventcloud charges one subscription with no per-ticket fees, so platform news stops being budget news.

See pricing

So a Bizzabo bill is flat on the platform and stepped on the extras. When a vendor restructures, the extras are where the risk lives, because add-on modules and professional services are the first things a smaller team struggles to staff. If you are mid-contract, this is the week to re-read which of your capabilities are core and which are services delivered by people.

What to ask any platform vendor this month

This is the platform migration conversation nobody wants to have with a vendor they like, so have it as a procurement checklist instead:

  • Who is my named contact now, and what is the escalation path if they leave?

  • Which of the features in my contract are software, and which are delivered by a services team?

  • Can I export every attendee record, every registration answer and every scan log myself, today, without a ticket to support?

  • What is the notice period on my subscription, and what happens to my event websites if I do not renew?

  • Is there a published roadmap, and has anything on it been quietly withdrawn?

A vendor that answers those five quickly is a vendor you can keep. A vendor that needs to check is telling you something.

The wider pattern

Event tech has now been through two full cycles in four years. The 2020 virtual boom funded a hiring spree and a run of acquisitions; Bizzabo alone bought x.ai, Whalebone, TeeVid and Klik in a single year. The 2022 correction unwound most of that hiring. The current round, across Bizzabo and its peers, is being described in the language of AI and speed rather than survival, and the products being promised are agents that do work rather than dashboards that show it. Organisers should read that charitably and contract for it sceptically: pay for what ships, not what is announced.

Where eventcloud stands

I run a much smaller company than Bizzabo, so I will not pretend headcount risk does not apply to us. What I can say is how we have built around it. eventcloud is priced per user, with unlimited events, unlimited tickets and unlimited registrations on every seat, and the check-in, badge printing and registration tools are software your own team runs, not services we staff for you. There is no attendee networking layer in eventcloud and no smart badge hardware; if those are the reasons you chose Bizzabo, they remain good reasons. If you want to see how the two compare line by line, the Bizzabo comparison is kept current, and the honest edges are on it too.
