Badge Stock Sizes

Badge stock is the card or label a badge is printed on, and its size decides the design, the holder and the printer. The 4 by 3 inch landscape badge is the common conference default, 4 by 6 inches suits trade shows that want room for logos and a big QR code, and metric shows use A6 (105 by 148 mm) or A7 (74 by 105 mm). Pick the size before anyone designs a badge or orders holders, because a design made for A6 will not shrink politely onto 4 by 3.

US suppliers sell in inches, UK and European ones increasingly in millimetres, and both sell 4 by 3 and 4 by 6 inch fan-fold stock for thermal printers. A6 is the one to test: at 105 mm wide it can exceed the 104 mm print width of common 4-inch thermal printers, so try a few on the exact printer before ordering thousands.
