An AMS, or association management system, is where an association keeps its members: who they are, which level they hold, whether their dues are paid and which chapter or branch they belong to. At event registration it answers one question: is this person a member in good standing, and so entitled to the member rate? Skip the check and people claim member rates they are not entitled to, while the events team checks membership numbers by hand against a spreadsheet.

AMS is US vocabulary; UK associations more often say membership database or CRM. Live checks go wrong when the data refreshes slowly, letting lapsed members through or blocking someone who joined that morning, so ask how often the two systems talk. Member pricing is one reason association events ask about the AMS before anything else.

In eventcloud, member rates run today as a private ticket group, or as promo codes limited to your members' email domains. Coming soon: member verification and member pricing.
