Summit

A summit gathers senior people for a short, high-level programme, usually a day or two of keynotes, panels and private meetings. The guest list is the product: sponsors and speakers come because of who else will be in the room, so most summits mix invited guests, approved applicants and a limited number of paid places. Registration has to protect that mix, and the badge has to tell the room who everyone is without anyone having to ask.

On both sides of the Atlantic, summit is a name more than a format with rules. Political summits between heads of government are the original sense, which is why the word still signals importance on an event title.
